Acceptable Use Policy

Applies To: All users, including educators, students, parents, administrators, and other authorized users of Pixton’s services and websites (collectively, “Users”).
Purpose
This Acceptable Use Policy (“Policy”) defines the standards of conduct required for using Pixton’s products, services, websites, and AI-assisted features.
Pixton is an educational platform designed to help students express ideas safely and creatively. All users are expected to act responsibly, respectfully, and lawfully when using Pixton.
Responsible Use
- Use Pixton only for educational or personal learning purposes.
- Respect the rights and privacy of others.
- Keep login credentials private and secure.
- Comply with all applicable laws, including data protection, copyright, and child protection laws.
- Follow your school or district’s acceptable use rules if accessing Pixton through an educational institution.
- Use AI-supported features responsibly — recognizing that all AI outputs are suggestions and that teachers and students remain the final decision-makers.
Unacceptable Use
Users may not use Pixton to:
- Create, share, or store content that is unlawful, harassing, threatening, discriminatory, defamatory, obscene, or otherwise inappropriate.
- Upload or include personal identifying information (such as full names, addresses, phone numbers, or school names) in comics or other user-generated content, except as permitted by educators under applicable privacy rules.
- Impersonate another individual, misrepresent affiliation, or access another user’s account.
- Attempt to bypass, disable, or interfere with Pixton’s security features.
- Use Pixton to advertise or promote products, services, or political messages.
- Instruct or encourage others to engage in any prohibited conduct.
- Attempt to generate, through AI or otherwise, harmful, violent, explicit, or age-inappropriate content.
- Engage in hacking, scraping, or reverse engineering of Pixton’s systems or APIs.
Security and Data Protection
Pixton stores all user data securely with Amazon Web Services (AWS) servers in Canada, encrypted in transit and at rest. Users must:
- Keep passwords private and use only secure sign-in methods provided (Google, Microsoft, or Clever).
- Report any suspected unauthorized access or data breach immediately to privacy@pixton.com.
- Use devices that are secure and protected by password, firewall, and antivirus software.
AI Use and Safety
- AI features (such as the Activity Maker and Magic Search) are optional.
- You must never submit personally identifiable information through these features.
- All AI outputs are age-appropriate, classroom-safe, and tested for safety and bias.
- Educators retain full control over whether and how AI features are enabled in their classrooms.
- AI inputs and outputs must not be misused to generate inappropriate, discriminatory, or harmful content.
Intellectual Property
Users retain ownership of their original stories and text created in Pixton, while Pixton retains ownership of all Pixton graphics, characters, and software.
Users may not copy, redistribute, or republish Pixton content except as allowed by Pixton’s Terms of Use or with written permission.
Reporting Violations
Any suspected violations of this Policy should be reported to Pixton via privacy@pixton.com.
Pixton will investigate all reports and may take corrective actions, which could include:
- Warning or retraining
- Temporary suspension
- Permanent account termination
- Notification to relevant authorities if required by law
Enforcement and Consequences
Failure to comply with this Policy may result in suspension or termination of access, data removal, and potential legal action.
Pixton reserves the right to monitor and review usage where necessary to protect the safety of its users and systems.
Policy Review
This Policy is reviewed annually by Pixton’s Privacy Officer to ensure ongoing alignment with privacy laws (FERPA, COPPA, GDPR, PIPEDA) and Pixton’s Security Policy and Data Processing Addendum.
