Things are getting too complicated around here!

Yes, these special effects just get in the way of the story!

Gradients and lighting effects?

Who needs 'em?

Yeah! Old school!

What about that expensive sun in the background?

Goodbye, utility bill!

Who needs dunes when a line will do? What are we, French?

Smooth…

In fact, just get rid of the background entirely. Like Brecht.

Didn't they do this in 'Chicago' as well?

Colour? Another frippery.

I like the word "frippery".

Speech bubbles were invented by Hitler, you know.

Now that I did not know.

In fact, our entire shape is over- complicated.

Uh…

Still too complex!

Are you sure about this?

Nothing's simpler than a circle!

But… am I still a cactus?

Dude, you never were a cactus. You've always been a bunch of pixels on a screen.

{ oh }

We can still simplify! Anything that distracts from communicating the message -gone!

I don't think I like this game anymore.

TWO characters? Luxury!

poit!

Hello?

What just happened?

Scott McCloud's not going to like this.

SunflowersAndFox

SunflowersAndFox 8 yrs ago from United States

He's a comic artist who wrote a comic called "Zot", about a boy from a utopian world and his girlfriend who is from a broken world. It's sort of manga-ish.

A hilarious and 'a-propos' comic! Like Brunswick says, if you haven't read Scott McCloud's "Understanding Comics" - you don't know what you're missing. It's been a huge influence on the creation of Pixton.

I looked at the online preview of this book and it's exactly what I've been looking for to improve my comics. Ant and I are off to the bookstore right now to pick up a copy - thanks, Daina! :o

Brunswick

Brunswick 9 yrs ago from New Zealand

How have I not mentioned this book to you before? The only bookstore in Wgtn that has it in stock is Graphic, which is closed today, but Central Library has a bunch of copies upstairs, as well as the less ground-breaking sequels.

Brunswick

Glossary:
Brecht: famous German playwright fond of minimal staging.
'Chicago': musical with many numbers staged in front of a black background.
Hitler: infamous WWII dictator (did not really invent speech bubbles, that was Wernher von Braun).
Scott McCloud: writer of 'Understanding Comics', recommended reading for anyone on Pixton.

supernaturaltoe

supernaturaltoe 9 yrs ago from New Zealand

I recommend http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kTKn1aSOyOs for all your Wernher von Braun needs.

ErikaBanuelos
