Step 1Class discussion with students
  • Ask students to write a journal entry on the following, “Have you ever felt the need to seek revenge on someone? What did they do? Did you get that revenge? If so, what was it?”

  • Ask the students to consider why we feel the need to seek revenge when someone does us wrong. Where does that feeling come from? Discuss first in partners, then as a class.
Step 2Pixton comic-making activities
Step 3Concluding discussion with students
  • What is the irony in Fortunato’s name?

  • The reader never learns what Fortunato did to Montresor. Do you think that makes the story better or worse than if the reader knew?
