Others, like the hummingbird, were tiny and frail as insects.
Not too long ago, there was a huge forest where thousands of wild animals used to live in perfect harmony with the plants that gave them their food and shelter.
There were many different kinds of animals. Some were big and strong as the great bear.
Unlike in other previous storms, this time a dreadful lightning hurt an old dry tree and started a tremendous fire.
One day, a storm broke the forest peace.
The scared animals ran for their lives to the riverside.
They stood there watching how the flames destroyed their home and sustenance.
They remained there motionless, moaning and crying, until they noticed the hummingbird was flying to the fire and back.
The tiny little bird was moving to and fro, picking up from the river the only single drop of water that its beak could carry. Next it would fly with its delicate wings as close to the flames as it could, and let its invisible liquid treasure fall on the fire, in a desperate attempt to extinguish the disaster.
All the other animals were looking at the hummingbird in amazement when the big bear started laughing and shouted at it:
What do you think you are doing?
In no time, the tiny little bird replied:
I'm doing my part.
