No, because then they get within scanning range of Earth.

...They might see Earth as a Plytaran ally and valid target.

If they keep a record of the life on Earth and then detect the same life on this ship...

I say we fly right at 'em. When the ship did that before, it disintegrated all the drones it passed through.

Two problems. First, we can't detect the drones until it's too late to change course.

Then we -

Let's say it works once. Maybe twice. The drones will adapt and spread out so that we can only get four or five in a sweep.

Secondly, even if we found a way...

When we hit a swarm once, they'll go to hyperspace so that we can't do it again.

Only to return in greater numbers.

The Plytarans scanned the factories they found; each one can produce twelve drones an hour. Even if it only took us an hour to find the swarm again, there could still be a hundred more than there were the last time we struck.

So we know where they are?

We know where six of them were back in Khufu's day. There's an asteroid belt in the Krela system, plus two of them were in an adjacent system.

They can move to new asteroids, but they don't have hyperdrives.

So what happens if we warp through the asteroids?

Nice thought. The ships already tried it in 2147 BCE and got their backsides kicked because a mass like an asteroid collapses the warp field.

When you say kicked...

I mean the Victory was near light speed when it slammed into the asteroid. Which exploded.

Let's not do that.

Right. We need to buy time to come up with a cunning plan.

Hence moving to Barnard's Star?

Exactly.

Maybe it's worth trying to get to Krela, to see if there's a record of the shutdown code.

Politics major strikes again! It's worth considering.

Once we can get there without getting blown to bits.

Indeed. All in favour of starting with Barnard's Star?

Aye!

...why not?

All personnel accounted for. No additional life signs.

Motion carried. Computer, all aboard?

Jason, would you like to do the honours?

Try and stop me!

You did a really good job with perspective!

Why, thank you! I kind of cheated with the environments; a lot of them were built in 3D CAD then traced with comic objects ;-)

I don't think that's cheating, lol. It can be quite a challenge to properly trace an image.
