21st January, 2017 Earth orbit

The last Plytarans, assuming they have not been found, are in suspended animation at the centre of a dwarf planet that is far from its home star.

They've been asleep since before Khufu built the Great Pyramid.

They cannot be revived until the drone threat has been eliminated.

Hang on. Are you expecting the drones here?

They were last encountered four hundred and eight days ago.

Assuming they continue to follow this ship's engine spike without diversion, they will arrive here in six days.

Affirmative.

Slightly slower than you, then?

What will they do about Earth?

Without Plytaran life or technology, they will ignore it, as they have ignored the other five civilisations this ship has visited.

So all a crew of this ship would have to do is win a war...

...that you've been unable to win since most of the people on Earth thought death was just reanimation on another planet...

...and save nine hundred people ^ who basically decided to sleep while you Benny Hill across the galaxy.

Or watch the same story happen again on your world.

Well, it's clear I've no power to stop ^ the slow-motion train wreck my civilisation has become.

I don't really fancy watching it from a front-row seat.

At least up here, our fate would be in our own hands. Maybe we could accomplish SOMETHING.

I'm in. But I want access to everything on file about these drones.

Also, I need a manual for the ship's systems.

Specified files have been translated. ^ A suitable control interface device is being synthesised in the Captain's Office.

First door on your left.
