21st January, 2017 Earth orbit

Youch. I'm guessing the story didn't end well for either side, since we're now at an abandoned Plytaran ship fleeing an army of Krelax-built machines.

You are correct.

This vessel was built in hidden asteroid-mine shipyards near the end of the war.

Thirty-two Ke'shel class cruisers should have been enough to deal with their attackers and blockade their world from orbit until a diplomatic solution could be found.

But the Krelax had asteroid shipyards too.

Entirely automated, building automated ships...

Their drones fly in swarms.

They are programmed to seek and destroy all Plytaran life and technology.

Day ninety-four, the drones' attempts to shoot their way in have not subsided. Lack of sleep and dwindling supplies may soon finish us.

They are not programmed to give up.

Before they realised that only the Krelax government could stop these drones from replicating...

...the Plytaran War Council took the decision to blast the Krelax back to the stone age.

After the first shipyard was found and destroyed...

...the drones adapted. They fell back to defend their remaining shipyards, keeping enough at each place to seriously threaten the Plytaran fleet's combined force.

As they built more drones...

...they resumed their genocidal hunt, in huge and ever-increasing numbers.

All four fledgling colonies were eradicated.

Some nine hundred survivors left the last colony...

...while the surviving defence force bought time...

...with their lives.

This ship was one of three to survive that final blockade, fleeing in separate directions once the colonists' engine spike had faded...

That's it, the last traces of the evacuees' acceleration vectors are now beyond Krelax sensor range.

They should have changed course by now too. Hail the Tranquillity.

Good luck, captain. May we one day meet again to eliminate the threat.

...with orders never to lead the drones...

...to the place where the survivors sleep.

This is a great-looking series. I love your ship designs, and your plotline definitely keeps me intrigued! Can't wait to see what you do next.

Thank you! The ships were a lot of work, so I'm glad to know they're liked :-D Next episode should be up on Saturday :-)
